DELUGE,2022

< back
Drawing on wall. Installation view at Galeria Desborde, Bogota, Colombia.

Deluge was made for "Polemiks", an exhibition for which artists were invited to present projects that are either complicated or impossible to realize.

Using the technology of cloud seeding, which involves spraying clouds with the chemical silver iodide in order to create artificial rain, Deluge consists of provoking a rain storm in the eight blocks that conform Wall Street for an entire year.

Cloud seeding is a controversial method due to the toxicity of silver iodide as well as to the fact that agribusiness corporations that use it are leaving small farmers around without rain. As its name indicates, Wall Street was originally built by European colonizers in order to kick out Manhattan natives, and after it became a slave market for Africans and native Americans. Today it represents financial markets, global corporate power and the ensuing environmental degradation and privatization of natural resources and common goods.

Deluge alludes to our civilization's hubris as well as to the urgent need to reinvent cultural paradigms.
